Commercial, Charities and Education Solicitor - Leeds
Law is an acutely commercial profession, but every now and again there is the chance to be working for a good cause or broader benefit rather than for a deal value, a profit or a share price. This is just such an opportunity, and it's highly likely that it'll go to someone who hasn't done much of this stuff before.
Charities work differently, but they still have corporate structures, governance, contractual relationships, premises, people, and a whole world of considerations that need legal advice. Be that a national cancer charity, an educational academy or university, a donkey sanctuary, or a tea room on a country estate, they all need legal help! They also have some subtle differences in behaviours and considerations given their public profile and needs for transparency and a favourable reputation.
This team fundamentally wants someone with Commercial Law skills, though Corporate does transfer well into Charities too. These non-contentious skills should acquit someone to make a shift into this role focused on non-profit and education clients so long as someone has sufficient enthusiasm and interest to make the switch. Ideal candidates will have some charities and/or education experience in their background, but we don't live in an ideal world and so this team is genuinely objective about a re-train.
2 years PQE would be a good bench mark, but from NQ to maybe 5yrsPQE they'd consider an applicant on merit and the blend of competency and commitment and try and work with who is interested.
You'll be joining a popular mid-tier firm with a strong commercial services core offered from three office locations. It's a good brand with good people and doesn't struggle to appeal to candidates from big firms or regional firms so there's plenty to like.
Make no mistake though, this isn't a sleepy or soft field, it's highly specialist and practiced by plenty of strong firms with national reputations and resources so it's more expansive than you might think.
