This is actually a really well run law firm, particularly strong across North Yorkshire with a spread of services to businesses and private clients. They're also very values led, so they focus more on behaviours and competencies when it comes to career progression and promotion, managed through fully documented criteria and objective management.

Hybrid is standard, some of the firms teams attend the office together once a week, so whilst they're not a Top 100 firm they have certainly embraced flexibility for employees which they see as core to attraction and retention, and a commercial choice towards having a healthy workforce and financial base.

The Litigation department handles the whole remit of contentious work from commercial litigation, partnership and shareholder disputes, debt, inheritance disputes, and also litigation arising out of property and agriculture. For the clients the beauty is the continuity of the lawyer relationship with a trusted advisor as opposed to being passed around department. For the lawyers it's the breadth of expertise and the stimulation of a very varied diet as opposed to a much more limited one in many firms.

If you're someone who desires daily variety then this role should have unique appeal. For candidates who want to focus on a more tightly defined specialism of law then this isn't for you.

At the higher end of the PQE you'll be working towards the top of a small team, likely Senior Associate level, so will have your own work and also assist less experienced colleagues. You'll also be required to get involved in business development and relationship building, indeed future promotion to Partner won't happen unless you're doing this. There is plenty of exposure here for those who want it, and the chance to build your profile in in York and the surrounding region.
