RETRAIN INTO CHARITIES FROM CORPORATE, BANKING OR RESTRUCTURING.

My client has a market leading practise focused on charities, social enterprises, non-profit and purpose driven clients. Serving this sector nationally this firm has a stellar reputation, but a unique market position and culture which should appeal to anyone looking for top level expertise but without the big corporate brand mentality.

Several of their charities specialist lawyers have come from transactional law backgrounds in big firms, and a skills set in corporate or banking or restructuring is an appropriate base from which to redirect your expertise into acting for clients who have a different set of priorities. This is a different way to use the skills you've developed to date, in a well run firm which is massively respected and frequently referred matters from the biggest corporate practises.

The work you'll do will be a broad mix of transactional matters including asset and share sales and purchases, partnership agreements, incorporations, restructurings, and articles of association. You'll also advise on corporate governance and directors duties. Any knowledge of corporate insolvency, financial services regulatory, or debt finance will be useful but not essential. Experience of working with a variety of different legal structures (LLPs, CBS's, CICs, Co-operatives, and Partnerships) will be advantageous. Trusts Law knowledge will invariably be developed over time.

The above isn't an exhaustive list of what you'd get involved in, nor are these mandatory skills that a suitable candidate needs to have, but it does serve to demonstrate the breadth of the work, and the technical challenge involved. It's a fascinating opportunity.

5 years and upwards is envisaged to be the level of experience that'd fit best in this team, though they can consider a partner level hire, and rather than being prescriptive they are just keen to have conversations with people who are genuinely interested in a career as a charities law specialist.

Suitable applicants will be team players, interested in the wellbeing of colleagues and in helping less experienced lawyers in the team. You'll be focused on long term client relationships, and providing a top quality service. You'll need to grow technically and so you'll need to be enthusiastic about following a new direction. The firm do like ambition and there are good prospects here for career progression, but they don't like ego's.

You'll be given responsibility and exposure, but also support. The firm is very committed to flexibility for all staff including hybrid working. Part-time would work in this role as the nature of the work doesn't necessitate excessive late nights in the way that more typical transactional work would. so you can expect a better work-life balance. Anyone feeling disillusioned with big law should find this opportunity to be a breath of fresh air.

A fabulous opportunity - reach out for a confidential conversation.

Brooke Thornham Consulting advertisements use PQE levels purely as a guide to the level of experience required for the role and this does not prohibit applications from candidates who are able to demonstrate the necessary skills and experience. We aim to respond to enquiries as soon as possible but if we have not contacted you within 5 days then unfortunately on this occasion your application has not quite met the requirements of our client closely enough.
